The Riverside Correctional Facility had 45 solar panels installed to provide hot water for the inmates. Making Philadelphia the “Greenest City in America” is the goal of Philadelphia's current administration and with the Riverside Correctional Facility they are on their way. The system will provide energy savings of 20% to 25% annually during the anticipated 25 year life of the system saving an estimated $1.1 million dollars and one million pounds of carbon emissions.
